I decided to write my critical essay on The Family That Preys, this movie is a typical Tyler Perry film. A hard-working man isn’t good enough for the overachieving woman who believes she deserves the world. Tyler Perry was born and raised in New Orleans where he encountered a lot of pain, his dad abused him and he was homeless at one point in his life. He however, decided to turn his life around with writing. He took what Oprah said to heart, which was to keep a journal and write in it for mental health. He’s journal entries became stories and play based on the thought of good triumphing over bad. He spent a decade writing plays across the country and many of them turned in to movies. He then, opened his own movie and acting studio in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2006. Perry debuted a TV sitcom, House of Payne that same year. This article is more like a biography of Tyler Perry. I was unable to find a controversial article on my movie or the director, Tyler Perry. However, I do agree with the writer of this biography, Perry is a very talented and successful writer, director, comedian, and actor. He is an all around terrific entertainer. Perry has came very far in his life, and has achieved many things.

My favorite movie of all time is Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. In my opinion this movie is a classic. It’s the ultimate fantasy love story, a girl meets a charming, good looking guy and falls madly in love. I like the fact that Julia Roberts character, Vivian went from being a poor prostitute with nothing to look forward to, too becoming a woman who had the world at her figure tips to say the least. I also like how Richard Gere’s character, Edward Lewis didn’t judge Vivian like most would. He treated her like a real person not a whore. Even though, he did say a couple comments to her through out the movie that were derogatory; he respected her. His lawyer, Stuckey however did come on to her at one of the outings after Edward told him what her occupation was, because he was angry that Edward wasn’t paying attention to the business. The movie shows how different people can treat the same person in very different ways. Another, good thing about this movie is the fact that Vivian and Edward are polar opposites who fall madly in love. Vivian is a free spirit, while Edward is a conservative business man. The movie is an overall romantic story that makes me cry almost every time I watch it.

Michael Moore’s documentary, Sicko is about the continues corruption of the health care in our country. He made the documentary to show people in the United States that our health care basically sucks. Health care providers are some how aloud to pick and choose who they will and will not give health insurance too. Michael interviewed a woman who claimed that she can not get health insurance because she is obese. That is ludicrous.  The fact that a company can tell someone that they can’t receive insurance because they are fat is completely outrageous. Moore shows how many other countries give their citizens free health care such as Canada and England. These countries seem to know that their people’s health is very important. Michael shows how meaningful and significant the message of is documentary is. He shows this by interviewing real people, using background music, and many different camera techniques.

In my opinion I do not think that Michael Moore’s message would show the same impact if it was in essay form. You would not be able to feel the pain of the people he interviews by just reading their response. Also, the background music makes the viewer sympathetic throughout the entire film. When people start to watch this movie they figure there is no point and that he’s just mumbling about nonsense that’s not true. However, during the movie they actually get to witness the truth behind health care in America. They actually see how it hurts people, and they can realize that it might actually be a problem that our country needs to fix. You as a reader would not see or feel the things that you would if you read an essay vs. watching a documentary. So, no an essay would not show the same impact that a movie or documentary would.

Even though Pretty Woman is from the mid 90s I totally love this movie. I’ve been watching it since I was about 9 years-old.  Pretty Woman is so intriguing and pleasurable to watch. I enjoy that fact that even though Vivian, played by Julia Roberts is a prostitute she still has class and dignity. It’s a typical boy meets girl, boy falls for girl kind of movie.  Vivian gets a “gig” with a handsome millionaire, played by Richard Gere. He asks her to be his escort for the week well he’s in LA for something like $5000 or so. Obviously she agrees, unknowing that within the week they will fall desperately in love with each other. Pretty Woman is one of those movies that girls watch when they just broke up with their boyfriends, had a fight with a man, or when they just want to have a movie night with the girls. By the end of it I always shed a tear or so even though I know what is going to happen. It’s romantic. The movie is filled with anger, sorrow, love, and many more emotions. It is the classic chick flick. Any girl will want to watch it and every guy will whine when his girlfriend makes him see it.

Trojan commercials along with many commercials out there are sexual in a way that makes men and woman want to buy the product. This specific commercial shows a groom going to his future wife’s house when he encounters her very sexy yet conniving sister. The sister flirts with the man and tries to convince him to come up to her room because she has been thinking about him for awhile. As she walks away she unzips and takes off her dress. She looks back in just her bra and panties and sexually says,”I’ll be upstairs,” he than rushes to his car. As he reaches for his pack of Trojan condoms the father of his bride tells him that he past the test, and that he wanted to make sure that his daughter was marring a decent guy. He ends up running back to his car after her mother tries to shut his car door, to make sure that the holder where the Trojans were was closed.
This commercial does not show in anyway if the product works or how well it works. The commercial shows no value at all. I believe that the company should try more effective ideas; the way they used to sell their product. Well at the same time telling viewers how effective and pleasurable their products are. The commercial should be informative along with sexual because of the nature of the product. I’m not saying that the commercial at hand is bad but it would be better if it included more information about the specif product
